Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is unique amongst Catholic charities as it provides pastoral assistance to the Church wherever she is poor, persecuted or threatened. Areas of help include the training of seminarians and catechists, the printing and distribution of religious literature and supporting poor priests overseas with Mass offerings. Church construction, broadcasting radio programmes, providing vehicles and aiding refugees are also given priority. Applications are invited for this position which will become available on the forthcoming retirement of its incumbent who has managed the role with great distinction for 27 years.

Organisation

Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is the Australian arm of Aid to the Church in Need, the international charity which provides pastoral and material support to needy and persecuted Church communities throughout the world. Founded in 1947 it is unique among Catholic charities in providing direct assistance to the pastors, religious and lay leaders of the Church wherever she is poor, persecuted or threatened.

Summary of Role

The National Director of ACN Australia is the CEO responsible to the Board of ACN (Australia) for all aspects of the professional management and cost-effective conduct of the organisation in Australia.

The role includes the public promotion of ACN, the growing of its donation income, broadening the established donor base, and cultivating a new generation of donors committed to the Church's worldwide mission.

The CEO is required to deal effectively with ACN's international management in Germany, senior and other members of local Catholic communities throughout Australia, to be a proficient and persuasive public speaker, and to be able to manager a small office.

Some interstate and international travel will be required.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will have a strong and faithful commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and its charitable mission, will have a record of successful management, skills in fund-raising, and a willingness to continue the sensitive servicing of ACN's loyal donor base.

For these and other responsibilities, personal maturity, a diplomatic approach and persuasive skills in the public arena are essential.

Conditions

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
